Day 7: Composition

Tonight was my first night of my Photography Level 1 class.  Art, my instructor, is probably in his upper 60's to lower 70's and has been shooting most of his life.  I think Art is a bit of a hippy due to his laid back mannerism, the way he talked and his long gray hair.  I think I'm going to like Art.  There were all ages in my class and all with different goals.  Some just want to learn how to take a better everyday picture of their children and vacations, some are there for work and others, like myself, are hoping to have a career in photography.  Tonight's lesson was all about composition and the rules that apply.  Composition basically means putting something together, rather that be in photography, a work of art, music, writing or even our thoughts.  We watched a film and saw example shots of different compositions and techniques however, the one thing that is sticking out in my mind is patience.  Like every aspect in life, patience is greatly needed in the world of photography and Art stressed this point tonight.  In most situations I am very patient, I've even been told that I am too laid back at times, but when it comes to something that you want really bad it's so easy to let that frustration set in.  With that being said, I couldn't be luckier to have such an incredible support system through my friends that allow me to shoot their children and special moments to my husband that will not let me give up.  Thank you all very much, you have helped me compose the person I am today.
